For the past 3 years, I have struggled with patients suffering from the ill effects of modern day American breakfast cereals. With their concentrated forms of corn and wheat, they often disrupt the digestive system when eaten over long periods of time, reeking havoc with one’s digestive fire and causing production of phlegm and mucous that is stored in the lungs or sinuses, or even worse, forms polyps or tumors throughout the body.
To correct this problem, Masako and I have begun to formulate cereals based on traditional Chinese dietetics, foods that we eat and highly recommend to those cultivating optimum health. The first of these is our new Five Colors Chinese Herbal Cereal.
This is one of our staple breakfast cereals that we eat at home every week. It is hardy, but light, providing you with the essentials of a great start to your day. Filled with carbohydrates, protein, and essential nutrients you can’t go wrong with this as your breakfast.
Chinese medicine has a long history of making porridges to assist one’s health. Using rice as a base, herbs and other foodstuffs are often added to strengthen the body and keep a healthy balance. In Five Colors, we’ve included some famous Chinese food-grade herbs that increase one’s energy and longevity, as well as strengthen the whole digestive system.

Directions: Add 1 cup of cereal to 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer on the stove for 2-3 hrs, or put cereal in a slow cooker on low overnight for 6-8 hrs. Add honey or maple syrup to taste. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
